Crawl with me

In March 1990, about 60 people with disabilities crawled up the steps of the U.S. Capitol to drive the point home to Congress that they needed to pass the ADA, like, yesterday. Four months later, it passed.

25 years later, I lost my leg in a rock climbing accident and joined the disability community. I didn’t know about the Capitol Crawl, the 504 sit-ins, or even what a modern prosthetic leg looks like. I’ve had a grand old time finding out though, and now I want to share that joy.

What to expect

This newsletter is meant to both share my experiences and my research. I’m aiming for informative and entertaining. Expect the following:

  • Pieces about dating as both a woman in her late-thirties living in Los Angeles AND an amputee.

  • Infographics on the disability population - amputees aren’t as common as advertising might have you believe!

  • Recaps of books by disabled writers.

  • My own reflections on becoming a better ally, not just for other disabled people, but for all the wonderful communities out there fighting for rights and representation.

  • Paralympics!!! I’m not a Paralympian, but I am OBSESSED. Come be obsessed with me!

Writing mostly about disability. Sometimes fun, sometimes informative. Occasionally irreverent.
